Shri Aurobindo Ashram - Pondicherry

Aurobindo Ashram, the best known landmark of Pondicherry, has grown into a centre for the practice of Integral Yoga, a seat of learning and a training ground for sadhana attracting people from all over the world. World renowned Sri Aurobindo Ashram had been established at Pondicherry in 1926 by Sri Aurobindo- a poet, a philosopher and a revolutionary turned Yogi from Bengal along with the Mother- Mira Alfassa a French painter as well as a sculptor. Situated at Rangpillai Street, Aurobindo Ashram of Pondicherry has grown into a centre for the practice of Integral Yoga, a seat of learning and a training ground for sadhana attracting people from all over the world. Sri Aurobindo refined a system of Internal Yoga in order to practice Yoga with Modern Science i.e. to exercise spirituality by accepting the world as it is and by living as a part of it. The main ashram building is situated at the marine street, Puducherry, just behind the Raj Niwas which is surrounded by several buildings involved with educational and cultural activities of the Aurobindo Society. The central courtyard of the main ashram building has the memorials of the Mother and Sri Aurobindo decorated with flower strings under the frangipani tree.

 

 

Another attraction of Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry is Sri Aurobindo Handmade Paper Factory- an internationally renowned factory producing quality handmade paper and Ashram Book Shop. The collections of the works written by Sri Aurobindo are sold at the Ashram Book Shop. Ashram also provides visitors the facility of the guest houses at minimum rates.
