About Kufri

Kufri is a nice small hill station of Himachal Pradesh state of India which is well known for its ski slopes. It is located about 19-km from Shimla on the National Highway No.22 at an elevation of 2633m. ‘Kufri’ word madefrom the word ‘kufr’, which means ‘lake’ in the local language. Kufri along with Shimla and Chail forms the Golden Triangle of Himachal Pradesh. The region around Kufri was once a part of the Kingdom of Nepal; it was explored by British in 1819. Kufri is a nice location that offers a panoramic view of deep valleys, dense forests and lofty mountains. It is famous for its trekking and hiking trails. It is famous for winter sports; annual winter sports festival held in February at Kufri attracts a huge crowd of skiing buffs and adventure seekers. Covered with full of lush green hills, this cool place is also known for nature parks and picnic spots. Potato Research Station is another attraction of Kufri.

History of Kufri

The region around Kufri was once a part of the Kingdom of Nepal; it was explored by the British in 1819. Kufri remained unexplored and hidden from the rest of the world for a long time. Kufri came into the knowledge of people when British declared Shimla as the summer capital of India in 1939. After the independence of India, Kufri was recognized as a part of Shimla and became an important tourist place near Shimla.
