Jaipur, also known by the name of 'Pink City', is the most favored tourist destination in state of Rajasthan. Jaipur is part of the golden triangle of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, which is well  known tourism circuit and is part of most of the travel packages. Distance of Jaipur is 260 km from Delhi and 240 km from Agra. There are numerous tourist attractions in Jaipur that signify the royalty and grandeur of the Rajput family that ruled this place. 

Jaipur has umpteen tourist attractions starting from magnificent fortified structures on hill-tops, admirable palaces and museums, beautiful temples, and pink painted bazaars. Travelers can't stop admiring the architectural beauty and grandeur of these historical structures that give amazing experience of the royal history of Jaipur. This pink city is so named because of the color of stones used in the buildings within the walled city. There is a lot to buy here for tourists interested in shopping starting from leather products, pottery, handicrafts, local jewellery and pottery products. 

To get a glimpse of the historical fortification and royalty, travelers must visit the Nahargarh, Jaigarh and Amber fort, with the Nahargarh and Jaigarh fort located on top of hill, while Amber palace located at the bottom of hill. Another unique attraction in Jaigarh fort is world's biggest canon on wheels, known as Jai Ban. There are also some beautiful and admirable historical palaces in the main Jaipur city including Jal Mahal, Hawa Mahal and city palace

The city of Jaipur was founded by Sawai Jai Singh in the year 1727, and was the first well planned city in India with well laid structure and road network. The design of the city was in the nine-grid pattern, which was considered as lucky by the royalty. This capital of Rajasthan is one of the fastest growing city in India, with increasing numbers of industries and multi-national companies opening their offices here.  

History of Jaipur - Rajasthan Tourism

In ancient time Jaipur region comes under Matsya Kingdom. Jaipur is the first planned city of India, founded in 1727 by Maharaja Jai Singh II, a Kachhwaha Rajput, who ruled from 1699-1744. Maharaja Jai Singh II, who ruled from 1699-1744, took great interest while designing this pink city and consulted several books on architecture before making the lay out of Jaipur. Initially Amber, 11kms from Jaipur, was the capital of this Kachhwaha Rajput. He felt the need of shifting his capital city because of growing population and security reasons. 

After consulting on various aspects to make a brilliant city, the construction of the city of Jaipur was started in 1727 that was completed in 4 years by following the principles of Shilpa Shastra (Indian Architecture). At that time, the architecture of the town was supposed to be the best in Indian subcontinent. In 1853, during the visit of Prince of Wales in Jaipur, the whole city was painted in Pink color to welcome him.
