India Gate - Delhi

India Gate, one of the prime tourist attraction of Delhi, is a memorial built in 1931 for the honour of the Indian soldiers who died during the Afghan wars and World War I. Located at the end of Rajpath in New Delhi, this 42-meter high arch was designed by Edwin Lutyens and was originally called "All India War Memorial".  The names of those warriors are inscribed on the walls of India Gate. There is an eternal flame called-Amar Jawan Jyoti- lit beneath the shelter of the arch in memory of the Unknown Soldiers who died in the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. India Gate is a delightful picnic site surrounded by green lawns, fountains and water bodies, especially during hot summer evenings.
